Cold Processed Full Extract Cannabis Oil
Research for Animals
Summary of Evidence

Based on the analysis of current research, cannabis oil has shown varying degrees of effectiveness for different animals and conditions. The scientific evidence is strongest for dogs, particularly for treating seizures/epilepsy, osteoarthritis, and pain.

Strongest Evidence Areas

  1. Dogs and Full Extract Cold Processed Cannbabis Oil (FECO) : The most extensive research exists for canines, with strong evidence supporting FECO use for:

    • Seizure reduction: Studies show up to 89% reduction in seizure frequency

    • Osteoarthritis pain management: Multiple clinical trials demonstrate decreased pain and increased mobility

    • Anxiety: Moderate evidence shows benefits for storm/noise anxiety

  2. Cats and FECO: Moderate evidence exists for:

    • Pain management: Research shows reduced inflammatory markers

    • Seizure control: Limited studies indicate approximately 50% reduction in seizure frequency

  3. Horses and FECO: Early research shows:

    • Anxiety reduction: Particularly during transportation and stressful events

    • Limited evidence for pain management: Research is still emerging

Key Research Studies

  1. McGrath et al. (2018): "Randomized blinded controlled clinical trial to assess the effect of oral cannabidiol administration on seizure frequency in dogs with idiopathic epilepsy" - Published in the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, demonstrated 89% reduction in seizure frequency.

  2. Gamble et al. (2019): "Pharmacokinetics, Safety, and Clinical Efficacy of Cannabidiol Treatment in Osteoarthritic Dogs" - Published in Frontiers in Veterinary Science, showed significant decrease in pain and increase in activity.

  3. Vaughn et al. (2023): "Systematic review of cannabinoid applications in veterinary medicine" - Published in Veterinary Sciences, provided evidence supporting efficacy for pain, anxiety, and inflammation across multiple animal species.
